Stomach problems so far ...

This started on 26th Dec 2006. A feeling of unsteadiness, burning in the upper right stomach (just below the ribs, above the belly button), spreading towards the left. Pain, not severe but peculiar. It makes me restless the entire day till I take the sleeping tablet at 9:00pm and go to sleep.
After getting up in the morning at 6:00, the stomach is peaceful till 8:00/8:30. In between, I take my bath and pooja and a little bit of yoga. In the morning time, the bowel is somewhat cleared, but not fully satisfactory. There is apettite for morning breakfast by 8/8:30.
During the daytime, there is the urge to pass stools a few times but when I try, a lot of pressure is to be put and even then it results in small, hardened pieces. Sometimes I have to take it out physically. Severe discomfort in the stomach happens 1/2 times during the day. Sometimes the discomfort in the stomach is so severe that it compels me to think of quitting the body. The severe discomfort subsides after 15/20 minutes. There is no appetite for lunch or dinner. Within 2 months the weight has come down from 68 to 64 kgs. A feeling of butterflies in the lower stomach all the time. I the daytime, although feeling sleepy, cannot sleep because after dozing 5-10mins immediately the signal of slight pain and burining goes to the brain and it makes me sit to avoid facing the situation. In the night time after taking the sleeping pill of 10mg everything becomes calm and sleep comes for 6-7hrs with one interval. Sleep is sound otherwise. But the hangover of sleeping pill is there. I feel dull upto 10:0am. Feeling that I have got jumpy nerves and all the time a restlessness sets in and there is no confidence in anything. Even a doubt comes whether I breathe at all. Instead of thinking positive, the mind always works toward negative to put an end to all these peculiar feelings.

Now coming to the treatment part ...
Endoscopy: Done on Jan 8 2007 and July 6 2007.
Ultrasound scan of abdomen
Chest XRay
ECG
Stool test
Urine test
Heamatology report
Biochemistry report
TBD: Fill in details above.

Clinically no abnormality was diagnosed by the consultant gastro-enterologist. He wonders whether it is Ischemic bowel although the symptoms do not support it yet.
For blood pressure I take Natrilix SR (1-0-0) and Valent 160 (1-0-0) , Minipress XL 2.5mg ((0-0-1) and sugar Semi-Glynase (1.5-0-1)

The medecines prescribed by the doctor do not provide any relief. For general stomach discomfort, even after taking antacid liquid like Reflux (1Tbsp) it only gives temporary relief for 15-30mins.

Some symptoms of IBS seem to match.

Dad also tried homeopathy for almost 2 weeks. Even though the medicines did not do any good for his stomach condition, it did keep his "head reeling" sensation to a minimum.

Based on what I know from the past, he has had problems with bowel movements (Grand Canyon trip, etc.). This may have developed into a chronic situation over time (chronic IBS). Diet seems to help with the function of bowels -
high fiber (oats, apples, raw vegetables, etc)
Here's a link for reference -

Also check this out for abdominal pain. Does not rule out gall bladder stones, pancreatitis, appendicitis.

Sanje - the medecinenet site is pretty good.
Gall bladder stones, pancreatitis, appendicitis should have been caught by ultrasound and chest x-ray, right ?

Not sure about the tests. Let me check with Kalpana. You may also want to check with Dad's physician.

Here's some more on the diet after talking to Joanna.

Condition may be related to IBS, also called spastic colitis.
Most of this can be addressed by regulating diet. Improper diet can cause constipation, toxin buildup including gas and lead to symptoms indicated by Dad.

Recommended diet.

Avoid:
Diary products (cheese, egg, milk, etc.)
Corn.
White rice.
Wheat/Gluten.
Nuts.
Coffee, Tea.
Citrus (fruits, vegetables such as oranges, tomatoes, etc)

Include:
Apples, crunchy fiberous fruits.
Prunes.
Green salads.
Acidophilus yogurt, Kafir Yogurt.
Brown, yellow lentils.

Brown rice
Oatmeal

Include Juices:
Apple juice
Aloe Vera juice
Mint tea, especially after a meal.
Electrolyte solution (1/4 teasp of sea salt, 1/8 teasp of baking soda in 1 litre of water)

Other tips:
Drink lots of water.( Check if water is boiled and filtered properly)
Eat high fiber food.

6 tablets of triphala a day. This is the best medicine he can have.

Drink mint tea throughout the day, especially when in pain.
Use lots of cumin in food.
Eat small portions.
No acidic food.

Massage stomach - up to down movement with clockwise circular movements. This relieves pressure in the abdomen. May also use warm towel.

Drink Chamomile tea before bed.
